Here comes the traffic

Anyone that has a website knows the importance of getting traffic. It is the only thing that makes a difference in your success. If you are not able to generate targeted visitors, then you have failed.

The people that are trying to drive traffic to their sites are sometimes the same people that design the website. And we know that the only way to get traffic to your site is through search engine’s. Of course there is always paid advertising, but it’s going to cost you money, and you are in the business to make money, not give it away. Using the search engines to generate organic traffic for your website is the least expensive method that you can use. And that is why so many people like this method.

It’s unfortunate that many website owners do not comprehend the importance of search engine visibility that brings traffic to their site. Some people think that a fancy website to show off their skills will do the trick, but they are forgetting about what the customer is really looking for. Sure, you can have a pretty site, as long as your remember that it is secondary to getting traffic and customers.

Effective Keywords

Choosing the right keywords for your site is critical. You need to get into your customer’s head and figure out what they would be typing in to find your product. Choose the wrong keywords, and your visitors will hit the back button before they even know what your site is really about.

Repeating Keywords

There are certain techniques that you should avoid like the plague. Using the same key word over and over will not get you ranked higher in the search engines. On the contrary, the search engines may just drop you in the listings where you will never be found.

Keyword stuffing

Keyword stuffing is somewhat similar to repeating keywords. This is a form used by unscrupulous internet marketers in trying to trick the search engines into ranking them higher in the listings. These people might use tactics such as stuffing multiple keywords in the description area for their graphics. If the search engines discover you doing this they will consider it spam and knock you down in the rankings, if not bane you altogether.

Robbing Other Websites

It is not okay to borrow or steal content, images, icons, or any other content from other websites. Simply put, do not do it! It’s one thing to use other sites for inspiration, but copying their work is not allowed. Do not under estimate search engines, they are getting smarter and smarter every day, and have come up with ways to detect these kinds of things.

Keywords Not Related to Your Site

Why anyone would do this is beyond me, but I have seen it many times. There are unethical website masters that will attempt to gain search engine ranking by using keywords that have nothing to do with their website at all. They will use the most popular keyword that people are typing in to get visitors to land on their site. This is also considered spam by the search engines, and it will get you banned.

Hiding Your Text

Don’t hide your text from your visitors. They may not be able to see them, but the search engines will. Changing the color of the text on your site to match your background so that it is hidden from view is unethical. This method will not help you at all.

If you are trying to get your website listed in the search engines do it the right way. Don’t feel like you have an unfair advantage to people that are using these unethical techniques to rank above you. The search engines will and do find them. They do not sit on top of the hill for long, they get knocked off quickly. So do it the right way, and you will find yourself climbing the ranks and holding ground.
