Affiliate Marketing Key Players

Affiliate Marketing has been around for a long time. The Internet Marketers goal is to generate as much traffic to their site as possible and convert a percentage of those visitors into purchasers of either a product, information or services.

There was a time when it was easy to make a living as an affiliate marketer. With the constant changing of the internet the game has proven to be more difficult than it was in the past. The internet is now flooded with affiliate marketers, so the competition is high.

The Key Players in Affiliate Marketing:

Merchant

The Merchant is the player that supplies the product, services or information. They typically offer a percentage of the sale to the affiliate for their part in getting the customer over to the merchants website , if it results in a sale.

Affiliate

The affiliate is often looked at as an expert in the niche that they are promoting. They will typically set up a website that offers their visitors useful information on the product and services of the merchant. If they do a good job it will result in the visitor clicking through a link on their site, to the merchants site. If the visitor makes a purchase, the affiliate receives a percentage of that sale.

Customer

The customer would be the person that is searching for a solution to a problem that he is trying to solve. The customer will do a search using one of the major search engines, such as Google, Yahoo or MSN. The affiliates job is to offer a solution to the customers existing issue or desire. If they offer an exact solution to the problem, the customer is more likely to make a purchase.

The Network

The Network is a fourth key player. Networks offer as a go-between for both the affiliate and the merchant. They will have a large database of merchants that the affiliate marketer can apply to have a relationship with. The Network will handle all the money of sales that are generated. They handle the tracking of the sales to make sure that the affiliate gets paid.

Is Pay Per Click for you?

If you are looking for a fast way to get your website and business in the path of lots of potential customers, pay per click is an effective advertising method that will get results instantly. In order to make pay per click advertising work at its best, you need to know what you’re doing. Learning the hard way can end up costing you a lot of money. I will talk a little bit about how pay per click works so that you can make the decision on whether or not you want to use this method to promote your business.

The methods behind pay per click advertising are straightforward, but you must know them. You as an advertiser, purchase advertising by bidding for clicks from search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and other search engines. Once you have determined the keywords that you will be using for pay per click advertising, you choose how much you would like to pay each time someone clicks on your ad. The more you bid, the higher your advertisement gets placed on the page. For example, if you agree to pay $.20 each time someone clicks on your ad, the search engine will place your ad accordingly. And each time someone clicks on that ad and goes to your website, you pay $.20. Once someone clicks on your ad and lands on your web page, it is up to your website to convince your potential customer to take the action you are looking for.

Using pay per click to generate income can ultimately cost you a lot of money, if your website is not converting for you. Let’s say that you are bidding $.20 per click for an ad that brings a potential customer to your website. If your ad is clicked on by 100 people it would cost you a total of $20. So your goal would be to convert enough to pay the $20 that it cost you to get the people to your website, and at least an additional $20 or more for profits sake.

However, if you had 100 clicks to your site, and no sales, then your advertising efforts have just cost you $20. So there needs to be a balance in your conversions in order to make pay per click profitable for you.

One of the great advantages of pay per click is that you get instant results. As soon as your ads start running,  people will start clicking through to your website. This allows you to make instant real-time sales from your website. You can view the stats within your pay per click account and monitor how often your ads are being displayed, and how many people are clicking on your ads.  The goal would be to find key words that are related to the product you are selling that people are are typing and find your product, and bidding the lowest possible price, and still getting traffic to your website. You may not get it right the first time. Running a profitable pay per click campaign requires testing, and tracking.

When you start out your first campaign, take it easy, take it slow, until you feel comfortable with how everything works. Keep within your budget and monitor your results. Getting instant results from your marketing efforts can be very rewarding.

Here comes the traffic

Anyone that has a website knows the importance of getting traffic. It is the only thing that makes a difference in your success. If you are not able to generate targeted visitors, then you have failed.

The people that are trying to drive traffic to their sites are sometimes the same people that design the website. And we know that the only way to get traffic to your site is through search engine’s. Of course there is always paid advertising, but it’s going to cost you money, and you are in the business to make money, not give it away. Using the search engines to generate organic traffic for your website is the least expensive method that you can use. And that is why so many people like this method.

It’s unfortunate that many website owners do not comprehend the importance of search engine visibility that brings traffic to their site. Some people think that a fancy website to show off their skills will do the trick, but they are forgetting about what the customer is really looking for. Sure, you can have a pretty site, as long as your remember that it is secondary to getting traffic and customers.

Effective Keywords

Choosing the right keywords for your site is critical. You need to get into your customer’s head and figure out what they would be typing in to find your product. Choose the wrong keywords, and your visitors will hit the back button before they even know what your site is really about.

Repeating Keywords

There are certain techniques that you should avoid like the plague. Using the same key word over and over will not get you ranked higher in the search engines. On the contrary, the search engines may just drop you in the listings where you will never be found.

Keyword stuffing

Keyword stuffing is somewhat similar to repeating keywords. This is a form used by unscrupulous internet marketers in trying to trick the search engines into ranking them higher in the listings. These people might use tactics such as stuffing multiple keywords in the description area for their graphics. If the search engines discover you doing this they will consider it spam and knock you down in the rankings, if not bane you altogether.

Robbing Other Websites

It is not okay to borrow or steal content, images, icons, or any other content from other websites. Simply put, do not do it! It’s one thing to use other sites for inspiration, but copying their work is not allowed. Do not under estimate search engines, they are getting smarter and smarter every day, and have come up with ways to detect these kinds of things.

Keywords Not Related to Your Site

Why anyone would do this is beyond me, but I have seen it many times. There are unethical website masters that will attempt to gain search engine ranking by using keywords that have nothing to do with their website at all. They will use the most popular keyword that people are typing in to get visitors to land on their site. This is also considered spam by the search engines, and it will get you banned.

Hiding Your Text

Don’t hide your text from your visitors. They may not be able to see them, but the search engines will. Changing the color of the text on your site to match your background so that it is hidden from view is unethical. This method will not help you at all.

If you are trying to get your website listed in the search engines do it the right way. Don’t feel like you have an unfair advantage to people that are using these unethical techniques to rank above you. The search engines will and do find them. They do not sit on top of the hill for long, they get knocked off quickly. So do it the right way, and you will find yourself climbing the ranks and holding ground.

Expired. Go for it!

Most online marketers struggle to grab their share of traffic to their websites. You have probably invested a fair amount of money learning what it takes to get your piece of the pie only to be disappointed over and over again.

There may be a perfectly legitimate and extremely effective method in generating unique traffic that has gone unnoticed by many of your competitors.

I am going to talk a little bit about a way of getting existing traffic to your website that is being ignored.

Expired domains are definitely an option that you should explore. On a daily basis over 3 million visitors of targeted traffic are left abandoned to expired domains.

These websites are expired and left unattended because webmasters have lost interest in maintaining and managing those sites. Or it may be that they just forgot to renew them. Some of these sites were never even developed. The domain name was purchased with the intent of building a website, but the webmaster never got around to it. Some of these sites were once legitimate websites with traffic and sales.

In purchasing an expired domain you can capture all the effort and work, time and money, that the previous owner put in to the site, capturing the existing traffic that travels there on a daily basis. Some of these expired domains have the link popularity that will allow you to hit the ground running.

Link popularity is based on the number of other websites that are linking to a website. It stands to reason that if a website has previous link popularity that it may have been a thriving business at one time.

The best part is that you can get some of these domain names for the same amount it would cost you to register a brand-new name. Imagine being able to grab up a domain name that only has two words and a .com at the end. Two worded domain names are becoming very hard to find.. It seems that they have all been bought up. What better chance to grab up some of these names, than as an expired domain name.

If it’s something that you think you might be interested in, go ahead and check it out. It’s hard to say what little gem you might find waiting for you.

10 Ways to get Slapped

Your website should be targeted towards ranking highly in the search engines for your keywords. However, you must tread carefully when it comes to over optimization. Your Search Engine Optimization  (SEO) efforts should follow certain guidelines. By over optimizing, the search engines may consider your page as designed specifically for the purpose of ranking well.

When you learn Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies you often do not learn what you must not do.

Most SEO experts teach you how to optimize a web page for good search engine ranking, but very few tell you what you must NOT do if you want to avoid over optimization penalties, and see your page rank drop or your site get completely removed from the index.

Here Are 10 tips that you can follow:

1 – Content Theft:

Under no circumstances ever steal content from another’s website. If you are reported, and chances are good that you will be found, you will be immediately banned.

2 –  Proper Language:

Do not use a lot of slaying or rude words in your content. If you do, you take the risk of being de-indexed.

3 – Outgoing Links:

Do not use excessive out bound links. For example, 100 outgoing links on a single page would be considered excessive. When you do have out going links, try to have them pointing to good quality websites. Do not use link farms.

4 – URL Length:

When choosing your website address keep your URL to under 100 characters.

5 – Keyword Density:

Do not exceed a keyword density of over 10%. Try to keep it at under 5%, 2% is recommended. Anything over 10% is absolutely considered spamming or keyword stuffing.

6 – Title Tag:

When adding your title tag it should contain less than 60 characters and no special characters.

7 – Description Tag.

Your Description Tag should be under 200 characters or your sites search engine ranking takes the risk of dropping dramatically.

8 – Keyword Tag.

When adding keywords to your Keyword Tag, use less than 10 keywords. It is also important to avoid putting the same keyword in your keyword tag twice. It is true that the big search engines like Google no longer rank your site by looking at your keyword tag. However, they do look at it. And if it is overstuffed with keywords they will see your website in a negative light.

9 – Proper use of Alt Text.

When using pictures on your site you have the option to use Alt Text to describe the image. It is okay to use a keyword here, however never overstuffed your Alt Text with too many keywords. The search engines will notice and your site will suffer for it.

10 – Cloaking.

Cloaking is severely black hat. Never use cloaking to hide content from your visitors. Using cloaking techniques to try to convince the search engines to rank your site higher in the search engines will in the end cost you your rank position. And ultimately, you will get banned.

It is important to keep in mind that search engine algorithms change quite frequently. It is up to you to keep up to date on the latest information.

By following these 10 simple tips there is no guarantee that you will rank highly in the search engines. But there is one thing for sure, if you break the rules it could cost you all your hard work that you have put into your website.

Domain Tasting

When registering a domain name, you have a 5 day grace period in which you can return the domain for a full refund. Domain tasting is the act of buying a domain name, and testing it’s market value. Being able to find out if the domain name is capable of making money solely off the name or by existing linkage to the site, makes it risk free. You have 5 days to test this.

Domains that are successful in this test are added to the registrant’s portfolio. The success of a domain name usually depends on type-in traffic. They are also being tested for existing traffic because they are still listed in the search engines and other links around the web. Along with these things the domain name can be sold to a third party for a profit.

If the registrant decides that the domain is not capable of making money do to it’s name and existing traffic, the registrant will then return the domain for a refund. Domain tasting allows for a risk free testing of the domain name without ever having to pay for it, if you decide it will not make a profit for you.

Why a Domainer

A domainer is someone who buys and sells domain names for a profit. Buying and reselling domain names can be a lucrative revenue stream for those who would like to work from home. Think of buying a specific domain name as an investment. The value of the domain is all about the name.

The trick to making a profit flipping domains is to buy low and sell high. You can either acquire new domains or existing domains.

Domainers that buy old domains and resell them usually use automated applications allowing them to enter in certain criteria to help them search quickly. For example you can do a search on the WHOIS server and filter your results by keywords, search volume on those keywords and so on.

Choosing a keyword rich domain name with high search volume and low competition is important as Google will rank these websites quickly for that particular keyword. The more valuable the keywords the more valuable the domain name will be.

If you want to buy new domain names you will need to do a little keyword research There are plenty of free keyword research tools out there that you can use to find profitable keywords that have high search volume and low competition. This is very easy to do as the internet is an untapped gold mine! Choosing the right keywords is essential to the value of the domain name.

If you think you have found an excellent keyword phrase for your domain and the name is already taken don’t worry, you can easily add on one extra word to either the front of the name or to the end. For example, you want the keyword “chicken coop plans” but it is already taken. You can simply add on the word “easy” creating the name “easy chicken coop plans”. I have not yet had a problem using this technique to get a domain name with the keywords that I want.

Try not to get to attached to your domain names. Sometimes we buy a domain name and want to hold onto it just because we like the name. When a bid comes in for your favorite domain name go ahead and sell it.

Getting into domaining requires a small amount of money. Each domain name will cost you around $10. As you build up your capital you will be able to build your domain portfolio.

You can optimize your parked domains for profit until a bid comes in that you are satisfied with. Adding content and advertising directly to your parked domain will not cost you any money. In the mean time as people land on your page you can make a little extra income if they click on the advertisements.

So why a domainer?

-Being able to work from home or create extra income

-Setting your own hours

-Buying a domain name will cost you under $10. You can then resell it for several hundred. Quite a profit!

-Parked domains waiting to be sold and containing pay-per-click adds will generate profit

The key to success is keeping up on industry news. Keep your self educated by learning from the success and failures of others. Look for forums with an active group of domainers that often share their success and failures. You will learn a lot this way.

If you are willing to do the research, planning and investing you can make a great deal of money.

Keep in mind that no one article can cover even the basics of this topic. I recommend that you keep informed of domain investing information as you would do in any career.
