Local Search Marketing

If you have a local business without an online presence, you are missing out on potential prospects. Many things have changed since the 90s. It seems that everyone now has a computer in their home. People search for local businesses on the internet before they jump in their car and head out to find what they need.

If you have a website that represents your business, you should keep it updated regularly. Current information is important in building trust from your visitors. Your website is a perfect place to keep potential and existing customers updated on the current changes of your business. If you have nothing new on your website, there would be no reason for your visitors to return. Don’t let your site get outdated.

Another reason it is important to keep fresh content on your website is that the search engines will visit your site more often. This is one of the techniques used so as to have your site rank well within the search engines.

If you do not yet have a website you’re missing out on thousands of potential new customers. To get a website up and running these days is simple. You barely need to even know HTML. Or if you desire, web designers are available at reasonable prices if you wish to outsource.

And lastly, provide your visitors with useful information. Most people turn to the Internet because they are searching for an answer. Give them the answers to these questions and they will become returning  visitors.

In conclusion, work on having a website that can be found within the major search engines. Keep fresh and up-to-date content on your site. This will resort in returning customers. Always provide your visitors with useful information.

Tips on Choosing a Domain Name

Coming up with a domain name for your website is a very important step. If you are new to the Internet, the domain name is the word or phrase that a visitor types  in to reach your website. It is the parts of the address that comes after the HTTP://www, and ends with .com, .net, .biz or some other variation.

When choosing a domain name try to choose something that make sense. For example, don’t choose “coconutjellybean” just because you think the name is cute, especially if you are planning on making a website about motorcycles. Also, avoid using abbreviations in your domain name. You want the name to be easy to remember. Shoot for a. com, as this is still the most popular and easiest to remember.

You can buy a domain name from your web hosting company or through a domain name service. The process of signing up is the same either way. There will be a box that you can type in your desired domain name. The company you are using to buy your domain name will show you the different extensions you can choose from. As I said earlier, try to go with .com as it is the most popular domain name extension.

When coming up with domain names to use keywords play an important role in optimization for your website. You could use something catchy or creative, but using keywords relating to the topic of your website will help when it comes to ranking in the search engines.

If you find that the domain name that you want is already taken, and most likely it will be, the domain name service will display recommendations of other variations of your domain name. This is helpful as sometimes they do come up with some good suggestions.

For the best domain name possible try to go with something short, no hyphens, and sums up what your website is about.

Choosing a domain name can be challenging at times. It does seem that all the good ones are gone. But this doesn’t mean you can’t come up with a domain name that will suit your needs. If you are having a hard time coming up with ideas, consider asking family and friends for their ideas. They may think of variations or ideas that you have not thought of.

Building Content for Your AdSense Site

AdSense is a beautiful thing. When you write content for your website, and place ads within your content, the ads become very relevant on your page. People will click on these ads because they are relevant to the information they are searching for when they landed on your site. And if your content is interesting, they will come back again and again to read and click on more ads.

If you have a site where the content is boring, you will have a hard time getting visitors and ultimately they will not come back. So it is important that you have quality, interesting content if you want to make money using AdSense. Also, all the major search engines want to deliver to their searchers the most relevant content possible. Therefore if you have quality, interesting, and up-to-date content on your website, your chances of ranking highly in the search engines becomes better.

The best way to create content for your site is to write it yourself. This is why it is best to have a website on a subject that you are passionate about. If you are passionate about your topic, and you know a fair amount about the subject you are writing on, it will be much easier for you to come up with interesting content.

Blogs are a wonderful way to set up a system for writing about your favorite subject. The major search engines like blogs because of  fresh content. They reward websites that keep good quality unique content flowing.

Google Adsense – The Basics

We have talked in previous articles about using pay per click to increase revenue. Now I would like to touch on using the basics of Adsense to make money.

Choosing a Domain Name

The first thing you will need is a website. Choosing a name for your website is easier said than done. It seems that all the words in the dictionary are already taken. That doesn’t mean you can’t get a good domain name. You’ll just have to be more creative or search for a domain name is like that you can purchase that someone is willing to sell.

Hosting

You also need to choose a hosting service. If you are to choose a hosting service such as GoDaddy you can have your hosting done at a reasonable rate of around $10 a month.

Design The Site

Designing a site has become very easy these days. At one time you needed to learn HTML. Now you can easily put together a site using tools like Word press, or hiring a web site designer from places such as elance.com.

Content for Your Site

The ads that will be shown on your web pages will depend on the content that you have on each page. This works out well because as visitors land on your web pages, the ads being displayed on them will be relevant to what they are seeking.

Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization should be used to drive traffic to your site, just like with any other website. There are three different major search engines, Google, Yahoo, and MSN(Bing). These are the search engines that you should start with for optimizing your site.

If you are planning on using Google Adsense to make money, I would suggest that your website be on a topic that is of interest to you. You will want to deliver to your visitors quality content. If your website is on a topic that you are passionate about, you will find it much easier to blog or add content to it each day. If you are able to offer your visitors quality content then your visitors will keep returning, and Google will be happy with your site.

Domain Names – Selection Factors

Domain name selection used to be fairly easy. Not anymore. Today it is challenging to say the least. There are several factors to take into consideration when buying a domain name. Such things as, the name size, the number of years you register the domain, and the keywords within the domain name.

Short domain names may be easier to remember, but longer domain names can be more relevant when it comes to ranking within the search engine results. Keywords are the name of the game. A long domain name with several keywords could result in more traffic, thus resulting in higher conversions. Even if you could grab up a domain name with a single word, the traffic that would be attracted to this site is usually more general. And since these names are hard to get, or cost millions of dollars, you might as well choose your domain name with your main keywords in it.

Nowadays there is just no perfect size for domain names. A shorter domain name will be easier to remember. A longer domain name will add relevancy to the search results.

Today when people buy domain names it usually consists of two or three words. It would be ideal if you could come up with 2 to 3 word domain name that is easy to remember. Try using domain names suggestion tools to get ideas.

When purchasing a domain name it is always best to register the name for more than one year. It is the consensus that a domain name that is only registered for one year takes less precedents in the ranking process.

You could search for new domain names by watching for sites that have expired. Domain names that have expired enter into a grace period of about 40 days. If the domain name owner does not renew within this timeframe, then the domain name enters into a domain redemption cycle for another 30 days. Within this cycle the domain name owner still has the opportunity to register the domain name, but it becomes more of a hassle and cost extra fees. If after this second cycle the domain name has not been renewed then it is deleted from the domain registry within the next five days.

During this cycle it is advised to use an agent to back order the domain name. If you do not get the domain, then you will be refunded the amount you paid. So there is no financial risk at back ordering domains.

Spamming the Search Engines

Search engines are used to find content that is relevant to the searcher. The search engines do their best to deliver relevant content. They are always trying to improve their services. It is a never ending task for them to try to find ways to eliminate spamming of their services. Unethical search engine optimization techniques are used to improve page rank by abusing and by understanding search engine algorithms. Spammers will try to make it appear that the content is relevant, but when the visitor lands on the page they will find anything but what they were looking for.

If you are having trouble getting to the top of the search engines for your keywords, you may find it tempting to use unethical techniques to improve your ranking. Tricking the search engines is not the answer. Though this method may bring immediate benefits, it is only temporary, as the search engines will discover these unethical tactics.

There are even SEO services who will use unethical methods without your knowledge or consent. It is important to understand the difference between white hat and black hat SEO when hiring experts. You would not want to get blacklisted by Google and the other major search engines because you were not aware of the methods being used on your website.

If you are not getting the visitors that you need to make a profit to your website through organic search, consider using pay per click advertising to obtain immediate results.

Unethical marketers are coming up with new techniques for spamming the search engines every day. Some of these techniques are more effective than others. Some of these techniques include keyword stuffing, cloaking, and small or hidden text.

Search engine spam is considered any method that is used to trick the search engines to get better search engine ranking. Google does not hold back when it comes to search engine spam. When they discover one of these sites they immediately de-index it. It is important to know the difference between ethical and unethical search engine optimization techniques. The best way to learn what is allowed and not allowed is to familiarize yourself with Google guidelines and policies, along with the other major search engines. Keep in mind that these policies do change from time to time, so it is imperative to keep up to date.

Your Website’s Internal Ranking Factors

Internal ranking factors are within your control. It is in your control because it is a part of your website. There are two areas of this equation that you can optimize. These are on-page, and on-site. The things that you can control on-page will be such things as keywords. The things that you can control on-site will be the things that you do to the website itself, such as navigation and HTML configuration.

There is so much to learn about search engine optimization that it seems impossible for one person to know it all. What you must do is to concentrate on the most important factors. The most important factors will be those things that we know work for sure.

Using keywords in the URL is one of those important factors. You don’t necessarily need to have your keywords in your domain name, although it would be nice. Without a doubt you should have your keywords for each page after the base of the domain name.

You want to use keywords in the content of each of your web pages. This is how the major search engines will determine what each web page focuses on. There is a fine balance in using keywords in the content of each page. If a single keyword or key phrase is used too many times, the search engines will view this as spamming. Keyword density should fall somewhere between 0.2% and 0.4%.

When using keyword phrases one should take into consideration keyword proximity. This refers to how close together the key words are to each other that you are trying to rank for. For example if you are trying to rank for that key phrase “dog training in Alabama”, you should try, if possible, to keep these words altogether.

Search engine optimization techniques are learned by the SEO community through testing. The major search engines do not make public their secrets. The SEO community has determined that the earlier your keyword or keyword phrase is found in the content the better. For example, if your keyword is “dog training in Alabama”, you should try to make sure that this keyword phrase appears once in the first sentence or paragraph of the content on the page. After that you will want to scatter your keyword around the page to equal a density of about 0.2% to 0.4%. it is also important to note that this keyword density should flow naturally within the content of the site.

When considering internal ranking factors, one should start with the most important factors that have been proven over time to work. This will insure that you are focusing your time in the best way possible in getting your domain ranked within the search engines.

There are several phases when it comes to the SEM process. A couple of the first steps that you will need to focus on are planning and research, content creation, and campaign creation.

Planning and Research

When you start the process of planning and research you want to learn as much as you can about the products and services that you are going to advertise.  This phase includes product and services information, figuring out your advertising budget and existing campaign information. The biggest part of this phase will be on keyword research and content creation. You should take your time and brainstorm your keywords and content ideas, as this will be the most important part of your research. Once you have completed this step you will be creating your landing page.

Content

Before you start your pay per click campaign you must have quality content on your site. More than likely your homepage will be too generic to use as the landing page. You will want to plan a landing page that is appropriate with content that will want to make your visitors take action.

Pay Per Click Campaign

The pay per click campaign creation phase includes two things. You will be monitoring your campaign and making any changes that need to be made in order to improve click through rate and conversion. You want to always be looking for ways to improve on your campaigns. When you see the need to make changes it could be something as simple as changing the title, or something as drastic as stopping the campaign and starting over again.

You should always be refining your campaign whether it be minor or major corrections. The people that are most successful with pay per click campaigns are those that are always testing and making changes to see which works best.

The only way to really learn the search engine marketing process is to jump in and start working. As time goes on and you tweak your campaign for success, you will begin to understand what works and what does not work.

Pay per click is a form of advertising offered Google and others. Using this form of advertising can offer quick results. Furthermore, can a single person really make a living using pay per click advertising?

Pay per click is a formulated strategy that allows anyone to open an account, and start advertising products on websites. These products do not even have to be your own. If you have an affiliate membership with a business that offers products and services online, you can direct visitors to their website and earn a percentage of each sale made by the person who passed through your site.

One of the questions that pay per click marketers are always asking, is should I create my own website before sending the potential customer to the affiliate site, or should I direct link to the affiliate site. Both options are available. However, direct linking to the advertisers site will tend to cost more per click than if a person is to set up their own website and then send the visitor to the affiliate site.

The problem with setting up a website first, is that the pay per click marketer does not know if the products and services offered by the affiliate will be a seller. Most pay per click marketers will first test the pay per click ad by direct linking to the affiliates website to see if it is worth their time and money. If this test proves positive results, then the pay per click marketer will set up their own domain.

Many people starting out using pay per click often wonder if you can really make a living using this type of advertising. The answer is yes, although it takes a lot of time to learn all the techniques involved. There are many steps and techniques in making pay per click work efficiently.

Using pay per click is a way to make an income and can be quite lucrative. But it takes time to learn, so don’t quit your day job until you have mastered the technique of pay per click.

Tasting, Flipping, Building

There is a grace period when you buy a domain name. If you decide that you do not want the domain name, you can return it within 5 days for a full refund. A domain taster will buy a domain name, test the natural traffic that comes to the domain name, and analyze the traffic. If the Domain taster finds that the domain name can be profitable, they will keep it. If it does not receive enough traffic to create a source of income, the domain taster will then return the domain name within 5 days for a full refund.

A domain name can be parked but still generate an income by having pay per click advertisements on the parked domain. If the domain name receives enough traffic, money can be made. This is not the only way to make money tasting domain names. You have the option to turn around and sell it. This is called domain flipping. You can also build up the website. Meaning, optimize it, get a good flood of traffic coming to the site and then sell it.

Flipping domain names is a common practice. People who buy domain names for the sole purpose of flipping them have no intent on fixing them up or optimizing them, nor parking them with related ads. When a domain name is purchased for the sole purpose of flipping it, it is usually a person with a key eye for current events. Watching what is going on in the world can tip-off what will be the next hottest topic.

You can use the 5 day grace period to make a final decision on whether or not you think the domain name will be a profitable one for you. You can choose to flip the domain name, fix it up and sell it, or park it with pay per click ads to generate income.
