Here comes the traffic

Anyone that has a website knows the importance of getting traffic. It is the only thing that makes a difference in your success. If you are not able to generate targeted visitors, then you have failed.

The people that are trying to drive traffic to their sites are sometimes the same people that design the website. And we know that the only way to get traffic to your site is through search engine’s. Of course there is always paid advertising, but it’s going to cost you money, and you are in the business to make money, not give it away. Using the search engines to generate organic traffic for your website is the least expensive method that you can use. And that is why so many people like this method.

It’s unfortunate that many website owners do not comprehend the importance of search engine visibility that brings traffic to their site. Some people think that a fancy website to show off their skills will do the trick, but they are forgetting about what the customer is really looking for. Sure, you can have a pretty site, as long as your remember that it is secondary to getting traffic and customers.

Effective Keywords

Choosing the right keywords for your site is critical. You need to get into your customer’s head and figure out what they would be typing in to find your product. Choose the wrong keywords, and your visitors will hit the back button before they even know what your site is really about.

Repeating Keywords

There are certain techniques that you should avoid like the plague. Using the same key word over and over will not get you ranked higher in the search engines. On the contrary, the search engines may just drop you in the listings where you will never be found.

Keyword stuffing

Keyword stuffing is somewhat similar to repeating keywords. This is a form used by unscrupulous internet marketers in trying to trick the search engines into ranking them higher in the listings. These people might use tactics such as stuffing multiple keywords in the description area for their graphics. If the search engines discover you doing this they will consider it spam and knock you down in the rankings, if not bane you altogether.

Robbing Other Websites

It is not okay to borrow or steal content, images, icons, or any other content from other websites. Simply put, do not do it! It’s one thing to use other sites for inspiration, but copying their work is not allowed. Do not under estimate search engines, they are getting smarter and smarter every day, and have come up with ways to detect these kinds of things.

Keywords Not Related to Your Site

Why anyone would do this is beyond me, but I have seen it many times. There are unethical website masters that will attempt to gain search engine ranking by using keywords that have nothing to do with their website at all. They will use the most popular keyword that people are typing in to get visitors to land on their site. This is also considered spam by the search engines, and it will get you banned.

Hiding Your Text

Don’t hide your text from your visitors. They may not be able to see them, but the search engines will. Changing the color of the text on your site to match your background so that it is hidden from view is unethical. This method will not help you at all.

If you are trying to get your website listed in the search engines do it the right way. Don’t feel like you have an unfair advantage to people that are using these unethical techniques to rank above you. The search engines will and do find them. They do not sit on top of the hill for long, they get knocked off quickly. So do it the right way, and you will find yourself climbing the ranks and holding ground.

Expired. Go for it!

Most online marketers struggle to grab their share of traffic to their websites. You have probably invested a fair amount of money learning what it takes to get your piece of the pie only to be disappointed over and over again.

There may be a perfectly legitimate and extremely effective method in generating unique traffic that has gone unnoticed by many of your competitors.

I am going to talk a little bit about a way of getting existing traffic to your website that is being ignored.

Expired domains are definitely an option that you should explore. On a daily basis over 3 million visitors of targeted traffic are left abandoned to expired domains.

These websites are expired and left unattended because webmasters have lost interest in maintaining and managing those sites. Or it may be that they just forgot to renew them. Some of these sites were never even developed. The domain name was purchased with the intent of building a website, but the webmaster never got around to it. Some of these sites were once legitimate websites with traffic and sales.

In purchasing an expired domain you can capture all the effort and work, time and money, that the previous owner put in to the site, capturing the existing traffic that travels there on a daily basis. Some of these expired domains have the link popularity that will allow you to hit the ground running.

Link popularity is based on the number of other websites that are linking to a website. It stands to reason that if a website has previous link popularity that it may have been a thriving business at one time.

The best part is that you can get some of these domain names for the same amount it would cost you to register a brand-new name. Imagine being able to grab up a domain name that only has two words and a .com at the end. Two worded domain names are becoming very hard to find.. It seems that they have all been bought up. What better chance to grab up some of these names, than as an expired domain name.

If it’s something that you think you might be interested in, go ahead and check it out. It’s hard to say what little gem you might find waiting for you.

10 Ways to get Slapped

Your website should be targeted towards ranking highly in the search engines for your keywords. However, you must tread carefully when it comes to over optimization. Your Search Engine Optimization  (SEO) efforts should follow certain guidelines. By over optimizing, the search engines may consider your page as designed specifically for the purpose of ranking well.

When you learn Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies you often do not learn what you must not do.

Most SEO experts teach you how to optimize a web page for good search engine ranking, but very few tell you what you must NOT do if you want to avoid over optimization penalties, and see your page rank drop or your site get completely removed from the index.

Here Are 10 tips that you can follow:

1 – Content Theft:

Under no circumstances ever steal content from another’s website. If you are reported, and chances are good that you will be found, you will be immediately banned.

2 –  Proper Language:

Do not use a lot of slaying or rude words in your content. If you do, you take the risk of being de-indexed.

3 – Outgoing Links:

Do not use excessive out bound links. For example, 100 outgoing links on a single page would be considered excessive. When you do have out going links, try to have them pointing to good quality websites. Do not use link farms.

4 – URL Length:

When choosing your website address keep your URL to under 100 characters.

5 – Keyword Density:

Do not exceed a keyword density of over 10%. Try to keep it at under 5%, 2% is recommended. Anything over 10% is absolutely considered spamming or keyword stuffing.

6 – Title Tag:

When adding your title tag it should contain less than 60 characters and no special characters.

7 – Description Tag.

Your Description Tag should be under 200 characters or your sites search engine ranking takes the risk of dropping dramatically.

8 – Keyword Tag.

When adding keywords to your Keyword Tag, use less than 10 keywords. It is also important to avoid putting the same keyword in your keyword tag twice. It is true that the big search engines like Google no longer rank your site by looking at your keyword tag. However, they do look at it. And if it is overstuffed with keywords they will see your website in a negative light.

9 – Proper use of Alt Text.

When using pictures on your site you have the option to use Alt Text to describe the image. It is okay to use a keyword here, however never overstuffed your Alt Text with too many keywords. The search engines will notice and your site will suffer for it.

10 – Cloaking.

Cloaking is severely black hat. Never use cloaking to hide content from your visitors. Using cloaking techniques to try to convince the search engines to rank your site higher in the search engines will in the end cost you your rank position. And ultimately, you will get banned.

It is important to keep in mind that search engine algorithms change quite frequently. It is up to you to keep up to date on the latest information.

By following these 10 simple tips there is no guarantee that you will rank highly in the search engines. But there is one thing for sure, if you break the rules it could cost you all your hard work that you have put into your website.

Make your Domain Name Choice

Simple suggestions here.

The first thing you need to do if you plan on building a website is to choose a domain name. The domain name is what people type into their browser to find your website. It will look something like: www.MyDomainName.com. You want your domain name to be something that is directly related to what you have to offer on your site.

The .com at the end of the domain is the most popular. Some people don’t realize that there are other choices. You could have a .org (organizations), .gov (government departments), .net (intended for Internet service providers), .edu (educational institutions), or .biz (for companies). There are other names that are lesser known, but we will not bother exploring these right now. In addition, each country also has its own code. The United Kingdom has .uk, Australia has .au, and so on. The list of country codes is hundreds.

With the .com names being so popular, there are not a lot of good ones left. Because of the shortage of good .com names, you may be tempted to choose a domain name other than the .com. However, it is still preferred to have a .com. The .com names have the most prestige and are better all around.

Coming up with a good .com name can at times be a little frustrating. It seems that no matter what you type in, it is already taken. There are people who constantly watch for domain names. As soon as they become available they grab them up. This is especially true for single word domain names. Your best option is to come up with a name that has two or three words that describe your website. If your goal is to get ranked highly in the search engines, and we all do, try to imagine what your customers might type into the search engines to find you. This will require a little keyword research to find out what your customers are typing in to find the products or services you will be offering. If the obvious search term is already taken, you might try adding a word in front of the domain name or at the end.

Once you have come up with three or four descriptive phrases, it’s time to go to the domain registration service. There are plenty out there, GoDaddy.com is one of my favorite, but there are many to choose from. You can now type in your phrase to see if it is available. If you are very lucky, you will get exactly what you want. But chances are you will have to try several searches. Once you have found your domain name, you can then register the name. You are now the proud owner of a domain name and a virtual real estate.

How to grab a Top Level Domain

In the last several years the availability of website domain name suffixes have grown. These include such names as .eu, .ws, .cc, and so on. This makes it a little bit easier to find a domain name directly related to the subject of your website.

For example, if you want to create a website about raising goats, it would make sense to use a domain name with that exact phrase in it. Unfortunately for you however, lots of other people have had the same idea. So www.RaisingGoats.com may no longer be available, or www.RaisingGoats.net, .bu, .biz, or any other domain name at the top level suffix.

It is also a fact that people that are doing searches on the net are going to give first priority to the sites that have a top-level domain name such as .com or .net.  With the. com top-level domain (TLD) people automatically think that they are more credible and have authority just because they have been around since the beginning of time. This is important to consider as you are promoting your business or products as it translates into trustworthiness.

People also believe that search engines will rank sites better with a top level domain (TLD) of .com. However, this is not true. As long as you have a domain name with your main keywords ,the top search engines will find this relevant and will allow you a fair chance of ranking.

So now that we know the importance of a top-level domain (TLD) of .com, what can you do about it? There are a couple easy tips that will help you in getting a domain name of your choosing with a .com at the end.

The first thing that you should try is to pluralize your version of the key phrase rather than a singular version or vice versa.

The second thing that you can try is far more likely to get you what you want. You can add numbers to your website name. Don’t try putting the numbers in front of the name, but rather at the end. Search engines don’t necessarily like domain names that start out with numbers. However, numbers at the end of your address will work fine. Better yet, adding numbers such as “2”, or “4”, in the body of the web address work really well.

The reason I use the number “2” and number “4” for examples, is that the number “2” can substitute for the word “to”, and the number “4” can be substituted for the word “for”.

You can also use this idea with the letter “u”, and replace the word “you”. Using these tactics you are sure to find a good top level domain name (TLD) that still fits very nicely with the subject of your website.

At this point you should have a good idea of how you can come up with creative ways to get the name that you want for your website using a top-level domain (TLD) .

More on Keyword Stuffing

Keywords are one of the most important parts of your website content. It is what tells the search engines what your website is about.

It is considered to be unethical to employ such tactics. Keyword stuffing involves overloading your meta tag and written content on your page with every possible phrase or keyword that relates to your site.

When search engines crawl your site, they can quickly determine if your site has valuable content for a reader. If they detect that your keyword density is too high, your site may be at risk of being dropped in the page ranks, or worse, dropped from the listings altogether. This is not a risk that you want to take as it can be very difficult if not impossible to recover.

Keyword density should be somewhere between 3% and 7%. If you are to write content with the keyword density of say 10%, the article would begin to hardly makes sense to the reader anyway. Search engines want to give their customers what they are looking for along with quality information. They are always looking for ways to weed out sites that do not offer their customers the best experience possible.

Search engine algorithms are forever improving. Trying to outsmart the search engine is nearly impossible these days. The best thing you can do is to offer quality content for your readers, the rest will follow.

Domain Optimizing – Increase Domain Wealth

Submitted By: Raaj Kalappuraka

Many domainers easily give up on their domain wealth quest after a few months. This happens due to a low CTR (Click Through Rate) or domain keywords that pay pennies which even when totalled over a month makes little change. Many of us then start blaming the parking company domain page landers or try to lay the blame game on other factors.

Not that I never did, but then, when you take some time to contemplate the problem at hand, you realize that parking companies themselves have their own limitations to help monetize a site. They cannot offer you the ability to create complete websites full of content. Although these days many domain parking services are trying to introduce content packed parking page landers. However, in many cases, the parking company feed provider itself doesn’t wish a parked page to have anything more than the actual advertisements.

We have to remember that these are parked pages, with the sole intention of grabbing the visitors attention and a quick end goal of a click through. These aren’t websites which can hold a visitors interest for a longer time. Keeping this in mind, to win, we have to work within the limitations of a parked page customization options.

Today, many parked pages “ARE” indexed by search engines. So lets learn to quickly make the most of what we have in hand and try to improve CTR’s and revenues. Here are a few vital domain parking tips that can help your parking page lander get the maximum click through by visitors.

1. Be sure to use the title tags.

Your title tag should urge a visitor to execute an action. Words like NOW, DISCOUNTS, HOT OFFERS, NEW, UNIQUE, SAVE etc are attention grabbing keywords that exhort people to action. Use your title tags to maximum benefit. Also, don’t make it too long! Something like, “Save More On Auto Insurance Now!” is long enough.

2. Use meta description tags to add relevant keyword rich descriptions. Remember, every word counts because you have a few lines to make it attention grabbing. Don’t write long meaningless descriptions. A description like ” Explore Super Low Rates on Car Insurance. Choose from Proven Auto Insurance Rate Quotes. Save Bigger on Your Car Insurance Now.” is pretty much what a person looking for cheaper car insurance wants to hear.

3. Your domain landing page colors “ARE” important. Take time to change colors and make your site easy on the eyes. Colors like blue add a touch of professionalism to a webpage. You honestly don’t want your visitor looking for health insurance land on a page that is blazing red colors. However, you might use red color on a sports car site.. It’s all about your keyword, your target audience and age demographics. When in doubt, always stick to the 16 web safe colors.

Keeping these points in mind is the first step to making your domains work for you. Wishing you all the luck in creating bigger domain wealth.

More about Top-level domains

Who could have ever imagined how the Internet would come to be. Even though the history of the Internet does not go back that far, it sure has come a long way.

Many people were hoping to see the top-level domain names expanded. If domain names such as travel.com, travel.org, and travel.net have already been grabbed up, new top level domains would allow opportunities for other travel type businesses. For several years now there has been intense political and legal battles about what new top level domain names should be approved. Not just that, but who should be responsible for managing these new TLD’s.

What does this mean for domain name owners? In between the www and the top-level domain, is our brand name. It is ours and we need to protect it. But lots of people like to protect their domains by purchasing all the top-level domain names. For example, if I wanted to protect my web address www.travel.com, I might purchase.net,.biz,.or info, and so on. For big companies with big budgets this is not a big deal. For the little guy however, it starts to add up.

Not a big deal I guess, but the Internet continues to grow. As time goes on many new top level domains will be added. I myself will probably always stick with the .com TLD. I still consider it the number one choice.

Domain Tasting

When registering a domain name, you have a 5 day grace period in which you can return the domain for a full refund. Domain tasting is the act of buying a domain name, and testing it’s market value. Being able to find out if the domain name is capable of making money solely off the name or by existing linkage to the site, makes it risk free. You have 5 days to test this.

Domains that are successful in this test are added to the registrant’s portfolio. The success of a domain name usually depends on type-in traffic. They are also being tested for existing traffic because they are still listed in the search engines and other links around the web. Along with these things the domain name can be sold to a third party for a profit.

If the registrant decides that the domain is not capable of making money do to it’s name and existing traffic, the registrant will then return the domain for a refund. Domain tasting allows for a risk free testing of the domain name without ever having to pay for it, if you decide it will not make a profit for you.
